Minor in Computer Science

The objective of this minor is to provide students who have a background in engineering or science with a structured and coherent concentration of study in computer science. The program consists of 24 quarter hours covering a basic introduction to computer science, data structures, and an application area chosen from operating systems, software engineering, or database management systems.

Admission Requirements

Students must have a 2.5 GPA or higher.

Required Courses

All required minor courses must be passed with a grade of C or higher.

  • One year sequence of introductory programming, (CS 240, CS 241, CS 242) or (CEG 220, CEG 221, CS 242): 12 hrs
  • Linux and Windows, CEG 233: 4 hrs
  • Data Structures and Algorithms, CS 400: 4 hrs
  • One of the following elective courses:
  • Introduction to Data Base Management: CS 405
  • Operating Systems: CEG 433
  • Software Engineering: CEG 460

Application Procedures

Students should complete the University form "Application for Entering a Dual Major/Double Degree Program or Adding a Minor" and send it to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
