Dr. Sharmila Mitra Mukhopadhyay is Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Director of Center for Nanoscale Multifunctional Materials at Wright State University. Her interests are in nano-materials, surface and interface phenomena, and multidisciplinary materials education. She received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Indian Institute of Technology and Ph.D. from Cornell University. She joined the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department of WSU in 1997 after working as Post Doc. at Rutgers University and Assistant Professor at Polytechnic University. At WSU, she is the 2011 recipient of the Trustees' Award for Faculty Excellence, which is the highest award given by the university “to outstanding full-time, fully-affiliated faculty who have demonstrated a sustained and balanced contribution to the teaching, research, and professional service mission of the university. The award is intended to honor those who serve as the most outstanding of role models for all Faculty.”

Dr. Mukhopadhyay has over hundred publications and obtained and directed several millions of dollars in research funding from a variety of agencies such as NSF, DOE, AFOSR, AFRL, NASA, OBOR, EPA, as well as industry. She serves on editorial boards of journals, review panels of funding agencies, and on executive committees of professional societies as well as community outreach groups. She has organized and co-organized several national and international symposia, and is past chair of the Electronics Division of American Ceramic Society. She is listed in "Who's Who in the World", "Who's Who in America" and "Who's Who in Science and Engineering", and is an elected Fellow of the American Ceramic Society.
